India’s batting unit delivered a commanding performance in the Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026. The team posted a massive 256/4 against Zimbabwe in Chennai, marking a strong comeback.
After inconsistent outings earlier, confidence returned to the dressing room. Tilak Varma revealed that watching videos of old matches helped the players rediscover their mindset and belief.
India’s top order had struggled in previous games. Questions were raised about intent and strike rate. Against Zimbabwe, the approach changed completely, with batters attacking from the very first over.
The innings featured 17 sixes, with contributions from every batter. The dominant display resulted in one of India’s highest totals in T20 World Cup history.
Tilak Varma played a key role, scoring an unbeaten 44 off just 16 balls. He said the team focused on returning to their natural style of play.
“Before the match, we spoke about having a good mindset. We watched videos from the last one year, which gave us confidence. We just wanted to enjoy our game,” Tilak said.
Since arriving in Chennai, the team management held detailed discussions with the batting group. Head coach Gautam Gambhir urged players to trust their strengths and avoid pressure.
Tilak also spoke about his flexibility in the batting order. Though he usually bats at No.3, he came in at No.6 and finished strongly.
“Whatever the team needs, I am ready. I have done this role before in the IPL and for India,” he added.
Sanju Samson provided a solid start at the top. That early momentum allowed the middle order to play freely and attack confidently.
With this emphatic win, India have regained confidence. Their upcoming clash against West Indies will decide their Semi final chances.
