Yashasvi Jaiswal has responded to the heated exchange with Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando during the second Test in Colombo.
But what exactly happened between the two? Jaiswal was dismissed for 45 after Fernando produced a delivery that came back sharply and went through his defence.
Fernando then gave Jaiswal a send off, and the Indian opener turned back before the two exchanged words.
Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva had to step in and separate them. The incident quickly led to questions over whether Jaiswal had crossed the line. Jaiswal, despite, believes people should know the full story before judging him.
Replying to a Cricbuzz post Jaiswal said If you don’t know what he said then please don’t make your judgment. If anyone cross the line we need to let them know. This India will fight and reply.
So, was there more said than what was seen on the field? India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak suggested emotions played a part in the incident. He also admitted Jaiswal should not have gone so close to Fernando.
The matter could now be looked at by match referee Andy Pycroft. The ICC Code of Conduct has rules for inappropriate physical contact between players.
Sri Lanka bowling coach Ryan van Niekerk also left the matter with the match officials. The big question now is whether Jaiswal will face any punishment.
For India, the focus will be on Day 2. But one thing is clear Jaiswal has made his position clear, and he is not backing down.
