Thug Life vs Kaanadigas

Kamal Haasan’s statement that Kannada was born in Tamil, made during the Thug Life audio launch event, has turned into a huge controversy. Social media was flooded with hate comments against Kamal Haasan from Kannadigas.

Following Kamal Haasan’s statement, many Kannadigas started protesting against the actor. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) announced that if Kamal Haasan did not apologize publicly for his statement against the Kannada language, Thug Life would not be released in Karnataka.

After KFCC’s announcement, Kamal Haasan, in a recent interaction with the press, stated that he would apologize if he was wrong—but not if he was right.

In this scenario, yesterday, Victory Cinema, a popular theater in Karnataka, posted a tweet on X saying, “Let’s keep controversy aside and celebrate cinema,” and announced that Thug Life movie bookings would be opened soon.

In response to this, some Kannadigas on social media started criticizing Victory Cinema’s management and even tagged the KFCC account in Victory Cinema’s tweet.

Also, some people commented that language is more important than cinema and that they couldn’t just enjoy the cinema of someone who “tarnished their language’s pride.”

After immense backlash from the Kannada people, Victory Cinema posted a tweet stating that Thug Life would be released on their premise only if it was released in Karnataka; otherwise, it would not.

It seems this Kannada language issue against actor Kamal Haasan is escalating day by day. It remains to be seen whether Kamal Haasan will apologize for his statement against the Kannada language and ensure a smooth release of Thug Life in Karnataka, or if his refusal to apologize will lead to significant trouble for the film’s release in the state.
