Suriya’s mass commercial entertainer Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, was released in theatres on May 15 and emerged as a massive blockbuster. The film reportedly collected more than Rs 300 crore at the box office, becoming one of Suriya’s biggest commercial successes.
Although Karuppu received mixed reviews from a section of audiences and critics, its commercial appeal worked strongly with viewers. Suriya’s powerful performance as Karuppasamy played a major role in connecting with the general audience and driving the film’s impressive theatrical run.
Following its successful run in cinemas, Karuppu is now set for its OTT premiere on Amazon Prime starting tomorrow. The film will be available in five languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
As the OTT release approaches, discussions among Kollywood audiences have shifted towards the possibility of deleted scenes being included in the streaming version. This has become one of the biggest talking points surrounding the digital premiere.
A few weeks ago, the film’s editor, R Kalaivanan, revealed in an interview that actor Arya had a cameo appearance in Karuppu. However, his scenes were removed from the theatrical version due to runtime limitations.
R Kalaivanan also mentioned that these deleted portions could be released in the future. Additionally, some scenes featured in the promotional teaser, including Suriya’s Ghajini watermelon recreation sequence, were absent from the theatrical cut.
As a result, many viewers are eager to know whether these missing scenes will be added to the OTT version. Despite the growing curiosity, the makers have not provided any official confirmation so far.
The mystery surrounding the deleted scenes will finally be resolved after Karuppu begins streaming. It also remains to be seen whether the film can recreate its theatrical success and impress OTT audiences as well.
