The Kollywood film Sirai, starring Vikram Prabhu and LK Akshay Kumar, is gearing up for a worldwide theatrical release on December 25th. The film is directed by debutant Suresh Rajakumari.
Ahead of its release, a press show for Sirai was held in Chennai yesterday. Critics and press members who attended the screening have shared largely positive reactions on social media.
Several reviewers have described Sirai as one of the most gripping thrillers released in Kollywood. Some have even called it one of the best films of the year so far.
Vikram Prabhu’s performance has received special praise. Critics say he delivers what could be his career-best acting in this film.
Following the strong press response, a section of Kollywood audiences is eagerly waiting to watch Sirai in theatres. At the same time, others are cautious and question whether the buzz could be part of a paid campaign.
This scepticism comes from recent experiences. Films such as Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, received glowing press reviews but failed badly after release.
Because of this, some viewers believe reviews cannot be trusted until the general audience responds. They feel only word of mouth after release gives a clear picture.
It now remains to be seen whether Sirai connects with the Kollywood audience. The big question is whether it will turn into a surprise hit and perform strongly at the box office after its December 25th release.
