The shooting of Rajinikanth’s much-awaited sequel Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, was completed a few days ago. The makers are reportedly planning a June release. Fans are now waiting for the next official update.
After Jailer 2, Rajinikanth is expected to begin work on the tentatively titled Thalaivar 173. As per the official announcement, the film is set to be directed by Cibi Chakaravarthi. Its shooting is likely to begin next month.
However, there is still uncertainty over the director. Reports suggest Cibi Chakaravarthi may step away from the project due to NOC issues with a Telugu producer. There is also speculation that Ashwath Marimuthu could replace him.
Amid this, strong rumours claim that if Cibi Chakaravarthi resolves the issue and the script moves ahead, he plans to bring in director Shankar as the antagonist. Actress Simran is also rumoured to be considered for a pivotal role.
If Ashwath Marimuthu takes over as director, these casting plans may not continue. No official confirmation has been made so far. The final cast and crew details are still awaited.
If Cibi Chakaravarthi directs the project and Shankar plays the antagonist, it could become Shankar’s first major acting role. Though he has appeared in brief cameos earlier, this would mark his first full-length screen presence.
Following these rumours, some social media users have started trolling Shankar. They linked the reported losses of Game Changer and Indian 2 to the speculation. However, such claims remain unverified.
At present, there is no official clarity on who will direct Rajinikanth’s 173rd film. It remains to be seen whether Cibi Chakaravarthi stays with the project and whether Shankar joins the cast later.
