Public sentiment around Air India seems to be reaching new lows, and Reddit is becoming a space where frustrated passengers are voicing their anger.
A recent post in r/AirTravelIndia describes a travel nightmare where a passenger flying from Patna to Udaipur via Delhi not only missed their connecting flight due to a delay but also discovered that their checked-in luggage was never loaded from Patna in the first place.

Several commenters shared similar grievances. One said Air India gets undeserved patronage just for being the national carrier. Another pointed out that now that it has taken over Vistara, once considered a reliable airline, things are only expected to get worse.
Some users tried to offer perspective, saying baggage mishandling happens with all airlines, but most agreed that Air India’s customer service is abysmal.

What struck a nerve was the suggestion by a user who said that Air India’s treatment of passengers is simply a reflection of how Indian citizens treat each other.
This bitter observation got people talking, and some even admitted that such indifference and lack of accountability is accepted in many sectors, not just aviation.

Others blamed operational tactics. One user explained how airports like Patna, with short runways and extreme temperatures, force airlines to skip baggage to keep flights light without informing passengers to avoid compensation claims.
Another commenter clarified that baggage services are managed by airport vendors, not the airline, although that didn’t absolve Air India in the eyes of most readers.
Separately, many Indians have been deeply unsettled ever since the recent Air India crash. Even without the these complaints, trust in the airline has been eroding rapidly. The crash has only confirmed the fears many passengers already had.
