An Air India passenger on flight AI-874 from Pune to Delhi raised alarm after noticing a decorative window panel coming loose on Saturday evening. The flight departed Pune at 8:30 PM and continued despite the issue.
Airline Response After Incident
Cabin crew were alerted immediately, but the panel remained in place until landing. Aviation sources later confirmed it was only a non-structural interior fitting and posed no threat to the aircraft’s safety.
Passenger Concerns on Service Quality
The frequent traveller who reported the issue said it did not cause panic but was unsettling. He added that such incidents raise doubts about service quality, even if flight safety is not at risk.
Experts Stress Passenger Confidence
Aviation experts explained that minor interior problems, though not safety-critical, can undermine passenger trust. They emphasised that airlines must act quickly and seriously to reassure travellers about both safety and service standards.
Need for Rigorous Maintenance
Reports of similar issues on Pune flights, including loose fittings and mishandled life jackets, highlight the need for strict pre-flight checks. With aircraft flying multiple daily routes, routine maintenance remains crucial to ensure reliability.
