American Airlines Scam: Weather Excuse, No Refund

American Airlines Scam

A business class passenger flying from Roatan to San Francisco via Miami says American Airlines not only canceled their late-night connecting flight but also lied about the reason to avoid paying for accommodation.

According to the passenger, the flight from Miami to San Francisco was delayed repeatedly due to a missing first officer. After hours of waiting on board, multiple announcements about crew availability, and further delays, the flight was ultimately canceled around 1:30 am.

The passenger, having already endured a long travel day, chose not to wait any longer in the terminal after being told by airport staff that they would receive a full refund of miles if they canceled the remaining leg and booked with another airline. They promptly arranged a new flight with United Airlines and paid for a nearby airport hotel out of pocket.

But now, American Airlines is refusing to fully refund their miles or reimburse the hotel stay. The reason given? “Weather-related cancellation.”

A reason that the passenger says is blatantly false. The pilot on board had made it crystal clear that the issue was the unavailability of a qualified first officer, not weather.

To make matters worse, another passenger from the same canceled flight, seated on the United flight the next day, revealed that they waited in line until after 1 am and did receive a hotel, Uber credit, and meal voucher from American Airlines.

This situation exposes the airline’s double standards, poor customer service, and an absurd level of penny-pinching.

Denying hotel reimbursement to a business class passenger after a five-hour delay and then trying to blame the weather is not just cheap, it is deceitful. The passenger deserves full compensation and a sincere apology, not a game of corporate dodgeball.
