A passenger shared a frustrating experience while trying to request a special meal on an international Delta Airlines flight operated by its partner LATAM. The traveller first attempted to make the request via the Delta app but found no option available.
Miscommunication Between Delta and LATAM
After contacting Delta’s chat support, an agent confirmed that the meal request had been placed. However, upon boarding the LATAM-operated flight, the crew informed the passenger that no such request was received. The traveller had to complete the long-haul journey without a meal.
Customer Service Confusion
Flight attendants admitted that such discrepancies between Delta and LATAM are common. When the passenger reached out to LATAM’s customer service after the trip, they were told LATAM did not have access to the reservation and that all requests must go through Delta.
Need for Better Coordination
Despite repeating the process with Delta chat support, the passenger feared a repeat of the issue on future flights. This incident highlights the urgent need for Delta to establish a reliable system, such as a dedicated phone line, to handle special service requests.
