Bomb Threat Triggers Panic on IndiGo Flight for Shillong

IndiGo aircraft at Kolkata airport security

An IndiGo flight bound for Shillong triggered a security scare on Saturday after a handwritten bomb threat was discovered onboard. The incident happened shortly before departure from Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

Flight 6E3074 was scheduled to depart at 9:15 AM. The aircraft was immediately moved to an isolation bay after the note was found inside the lavatory during the boarding process.

Airport authorities quickly followed standard safety procedures. All passengers were safely deboarded, and security teams began detailed checks of the aircraft and surrounding areas.

Officials confirmed that the handwritten note claimed a bomb was present onboard. This prompted immediate coordination between airport security staff and law enforcement agencies.

In an official statement, IndiGo said it had informed the concerned authorities and was cooperating fully with the investigation. The airline emphasised that passenger safety remains its top priority.

Security checks were still underway at the time of the latest update. Authorities said more information would be shared after completing the inspection and verification process.

The incident comes weeks after a similar security scare in January involving another IndiGo flight. That threat was later confirmed to be a hoax after extensive security checks.

Repeated hoax threats have raised concerns among aviation authorities. Officials believe stronger penalties and deterrent measures are necessary to prevent misuse of aviation security systems.
