UAE Visa Mess: Airlines Approval Above Embassies

UAE visa application process issue

A frequent traveller who has explored more than six continents has shared frustration with the visa application process in the UAE. Unlike most countries where embassies handle applications, the UAE follows a very different system.

Airline-Linked Visa Process

Instead of embassies, the UAE requires applicants to apply through airlines. These airlines then partner with VFS Global to process visas. This setup has left travellers with limited choices and has raised many concerns.

Issues for Travellers

The situation is tougher for those who book flights with airlines that do not handle visa processing. Applicants from countries requiring a UAE visa can only apply if they are sponsored by a family member or friend.

Third-Party Provider Shortcut

The traveller eventually turned to a third-party provider. To their surprise, the application was completed quickly. However, this also suggested that little or no proper screening was conducted during the process.

Need for Better Process

This case highlights the need for a more transparent and reliable system. Travellers believe that visa applications should be handled directly by UAE authorities instead of relying on airlines or third-party providers.
