New US Hiring Trend: No More H-1B Workers?

Uncertainty over US visas is changing the employment trends in the country. This could substantially affect Indian workers who make up a large part of the immigrant employees in America.

According to a new media report, US companies are bypassing visas and turning towards hiring remote workers from abroad. A 2024 survey revealed that 83% of American employers are hiring remotely.

As a result, Indian workers, who dominate the H-1B hirings with 75% of approvals annually, are going to take a major hit. Thousands of dreams to settle in the US will be squandered and they will have to adapt to this new trend till Trump makes his stance clear on the visa policies.

Giant corporations like Amazon, Infosys, Google, and Meta have already started cutting costs and pulling back on H-1B sponsorships.

However, the survival of small and medium businesses is at risk and most of them might have to resort to setting up operations in Canada or Mexico to bypass these restrictions.

The job market in America is getting more competitive for Indian workers. Critics argue that Trump’s “America First” approach will equally affect the US economy before getting any stability.
