Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are the two major players in the Telugu OTT market and more often than not, the big ticket pan Indian outings from Tollywood are acquired by either of them. However, in the case of Tollywood’s 2024 slate, Netflix has almost killed Amazon Prime Video.
Netflix recently announced its Tollywood slate for 2024 and it is to be seen that most of the major big-ticket outings, namely Devara and Pushpa 2 have been added to their library.
Devara and Pushpa 2 are two of the confirmed biggies to arrive in 2024 and both of them have been bagged by Netflix. Shockingly, Amazon didn’t acquire Pushpa 2 after seeing wide reach with the first part.
There is Prabhas’s Kalki as well, but there is no clarity on the OTT platform of this film. If Netflix manages to seal this biggie as well, then it will essentially mean that all of Tollywood’s biggest outings of 2024 are with Netflix. This will certainly help their cause of claiming the Telugu market.
For some odd reason, Amazon Prime which used to be super aggressive when it came to acquiring big-ticket films and giving them the earliest possible OTT release, has slowed down considerably.
Netflix is already benefiting from the OTT debut of Salaar as the action packed clips of the Prabhas starrer are trending on social media. The film is also trending in the No. 1 position on Netflix. Netflix is clearly ahead of Amazon in the Tollywood space.
