In recent times, many dance reality shows have started taking excessive creative liberties, often bordering on absurdity. A recent example comes from Dance Ikon 2, streaming on the Aha platform.
Choreographers now tend to include flashy stunts and exaggerated movements even in deeply emotional or culturally significant songs, all under the banner of “creative composition.”
However, viewers are increasingly calling it “creativity madness,” and that’s exactly what triggered backlash this time.
The controversy centers around a dance performance to the legendary song Aha Naa Pellanta from the iconic film Maya Bazaar, where the late actress Savitri gave a graceful performance.
However, in Dance Ikon 2, a choreographer reimagined the piece with a belly dance theme, complete with skimpy outfits, provocative moves, and unnecessary exposure.
After seeing the promo, netizens are furious, saying the act disrespects the classic and insults Savitri’s legacy.
The promo also showed that the judge, Sekhar Master, was thoroughly enjoying the performance, laughing out loud, which further enraged the audience.
Sekhar Master who has been facing trolling for choreographing vulgar dance moves for heroines recently, is once again expected to face backlash.
The guest on the show, director Indraganti Mohana Krishna, also appeared impressed, stating that he never imagined the song could be interpreted in that manner.
The full episode, airing on April 18, is likely to stir even more controversy. All eyes are now on how the Aha team will respond to the growing outrage.
