Akhil Akkineni’s Agent, directed by Surender Reddy, was one of the biggest disasters in Telugu cinema. Despite high expectations, the film crashed at the box office. Produced by Anil Sunkara with a massive budget of around 70-80 crores, its failure had a lasting impact on him.
However, despite its theatrical debacle, Agent managed to secure a decent OTT deal with Sony LIV. Usually, when a film flops, streaming platforms rush to release it. But that wasn’t the case here.

Even after nearly two years, Agent hadn’t premiered on OTT, due to reasons unknown. Sony LIV, which bought the rights, initially announced the release but later postponed it.
Recently, they set a streaming date—September 29, 2024—which excited Akhil’s fans. But soon after, they deleted the digital premiere posters from social media, creating confusion.

Now, it has been officially confirmed that Agent will finally stream on Sony LIV from March 14, 2025—almost 680 days after its theatrical release.
We have to see what kind of response it receives from the OTT audience. There is a huge section of the audience who hasn’t watched the film during its short run in theaters and are now curious to watch it, just to understand why it was such a disaster. Was it really that bad? Did it deserve to fail so miserably?
