Babita Singh Reporting dropped today August 28 on Prime Video and social media is loving the lead pair, even if the film is getting mixed to positive reviews.
The film is directed by Ambiecka Pandit in her feature debut, written by Amita Vyas and executive produced by Sudip Sharma of Paatal Lok and Kohrra fame.
It stars Nimisha Sajayan as ASI Babita Singh aka Baby, Barun Sobti as her childhood friend Bansi, Anshuman Pushkar as her husband Sharad, plus Sunita Rajwar and Rajesh Kumar.
The story is not a loud cop drama. Baby is a people pleasing junior cop who takes the blame for a senior and gets suspended for two weeks. She uses that leave to go to Rewa for her sister in law’s godh bharai.
There she reunites with Bansi at the station and the same night he is found murdered. The local police wants to close it, the family wants to forget it, and Baby starts a secret investigation which also forces her to confront the everyday patriarchy at her in laws house.
Everyone says the biggest win is Nimisha.

For Barun Sobti, the praise is that despite an extended cameo like role, he leaves a mark. A viewer posted that Barun as the simpleton Bansi in a different avatar is gentle and effective.
Ambiecka Pandit as a director is also getting shoutouts for her soft feminine gaze on a crime story and for not making Baby turn into a superhero overnight. The mother in law taunts, the weight comments, the haldi doodh at dawn, all those small cruelties have been noted as very real.
The complaints on the timeline are the same as critics. Runtime feels stretched at 131 minutes and the last 20 minutes pack too many twists.
But overall sentiment is clear. If you are tired of larger than life cop stories, Baby Singh is the rookie you will root for.
