The makers of Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge have confirmed that the sequel will stream on JioHotstar and not Netflix. This surprised many viewers, as Netflix hosted the first film. The platform change was revealed along with the film’s first look poster.
The poster clearly displayed the JioHotstar and Star Gold logos instead of Netflix. Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, the sequel has already drawn strong attention. This follows the massive success of Dhurandhar.
The original film became the highest grossing Hindi movie of all time. It earned over Rs 1,300 crore worldwide and nearly Rs 900 crore in India. Naturally, expectations from the second part are extremely high.
Industry sources state that the platform shift is a routine business move. There is no creative or contractual dispute involved. Streaming rights usually go to the highest bidder, and sequels are not bound to the original platform.
In this case, JioHotstar reportedly secured the rights through a competitive deal. Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is set for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19. The film will release in multiple Indian languages.
While the platform change has sparked discussion, the film’s success will depend on its content. Strong storytelling and execution will matter more than where it streams after its theatrical run.
