The much-loved Indian secret agent Srikant Tiwari is back, and fans were ready to celebrate his return. The third season of The Family Man, starring Manoj Bajpayee and directed by Raj and DK, began streaming last Friday. Expectations were sky high after two hit seasons. Although the makers tried to retain the same tone and energy, Season 3 has received mixed to negative reactions from OTT audiences.
This time Raj and DK moved the story to the Northeast of India. The new setting gave the show a fresh backdrop. Even with smooth pacing across seven episodes, many viewers felt the season lacked the tension, humor and engaging drama that made the earlier seasons addictive. The balance that defined The Family Man through comedy, family moments and thrilling sequences is not as sharp this time.
One huge complaint comes from the way the villain has been handled. Jaideep Ahlawat is a brilliant actor. His character here feels weaker compared to earlier antagonists. Season 1 shocked audiences with its villain. Samantha brought spice, fire and unpredictability to Season 2.
In Season 3, Jaideep barely feels menacing. He does not evoke fear or anger. At times he even feels he himself he is a hero than a true threat. Because of this, viewers neither hate him nor strongly root for Srikant to defeat him. The heavy geopolitical angle also limits the appeal of the season.
Another issue is the lack of big twists. Seasons 1 and 2 were filled with surprises that kept audiences talking for days. Season 3 feels straightforward in comparison.
The biggest point of backlash is the climax. The final moments show Srikant badly injured and almost on the brink of death. The season ends suddenly without clarity on whether he survived or what happened to the antagonist.
Many viewers felt the abrupt ending was frustrating and undeserved after waiting four years and watching eight hours of the new season. A cleaner conclusion would have reduced the negativity and trolling.
Fans are now hoping that Raj and DK move quickly and bring The Family Man 4 within a year or two. They want answers to the unresolved questions and hope the makers correct the blunders seen in Season 3.
