Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan directed by H Vinoth was released in theatres on July 23rd and has received mixed responses from the audiences and critics.
Despite the delay and the piracy leak, due to the factor that Jana Nayagan is the final film of Vijay, his fans have celebrated it as a huge festival and many Tamil audiences have watched and celebrated Vijay‘s one last dance in theatres. Hence, the film performed well in the box office collections and has collected more than 300 crores worldwide in its final run.
Following its successful theatrical run, Jana Nayagan started streaming on the Zee5 OTT platform with a 4 week theatrical window on August 21st in 5 languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Usually, when a huge actor’s film is released on OTT, social media would be flooded with lots of reviews and discussions about it. But surprisingly, there hasn’t been any buzz surrounding Jana Nayagan’s OTT release.
In response to the very low buzz of Jana Nayagan’s OTT release, many trade experts are suggesting that because of the piracy leak even before the theatrical release of Jana Nayagan, many people already had the HD print of the film.
Consequently, after Jana Nayagan was released in theatres, the HD print of the film was available on multiple piracy websites and people who were not able to watch it in theatres watched the leaked HD print of the film.
Therefore, they claim that most of the Kollywood audience and people who eagerly awaited to witness Jana Nayagan have watched it either in theatres or with the help of piracy websites, which is why the hype for the OTT release is very low for Jana Nayagan.
Meanwhile, some contemporaries of Vijay are claiming that Zee5 has wasted their money by acquiring the rights of Jana Nayagan. By pointing to the poor hype for the OTT release, they suggest that no one is now interested in watching Jana Nayagan, as it is one of the worst films in recent times.
Ultimately, with the poor buzz surrounding Jana Nayagan’s OTT release, it remains to be seen how Jana Nayagan is going to perform on the platform and whether it acquires a decent number of viewers for the platform in the following days.
