
Karan Johar’s much hyped web series debut, Jet Set Go, has hit the pause button, and big budget digital projects in India are unpredictable.

Set in the glamorous 1970s aviation world and starring three leading ladies, this was going to be one of the biggest Indian original on Netflix. But despite a completed script and initial prep, the project has been put on hold due to casting and financial issues.
Johar’s struggle to get A-list Bollywood actresses was the biggest hurdle. Most of the top actresses had a packed schedule or were not keen to shift to the web space, making it impossible to justify the high costs without big names attached.

This is the story of many other big projects that have stalled at the pre-production stage due to similar issues. While this is a setback for Johar’s digital storytelling plans, it’s not a goodbye.
He’s hopeful to revive Jet Set Go when the time and situation is right.

Meanwhile his production house Dharmatic Entertainment is churning out multiple projects with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Jio Hotstar so Johar’s presence in the OTT space will continue to be strong.
Ultimately Jet Set Go’s pause is a reminder that even biggies like Karan Johar are not immune to the changing dynamics and demands of the streaming world.
