OTT platforms have gained extreme popularity in delivering fresh, high-quality content that often rivals Hollywood productions.
Crime and suspense thrillers, especially web series and documentaries, are a major hit with viewers, encouraging new filmmakers to dive into these genres.
A standout example is the Malayalam series Kerala Crime Files, released in 2023 on Disney+ Hotstar and directed by Ahmad Kabir. It was one of the very few well-made OTT shows from the Malayalam industry.
While Malayalam cinema is ruling in terms of theatrical content, it was lagging behind in OTT.
Then came Kerala Crime Files Season 1, which received good appreciation for the show’s unique story and strong performances by actors like Aju Varghese and Lal, making it a must-watch for thriller fans.
Now, the series returns with Kerala Crime Files: The Search for SCPO Ambili Raju Season 2, whose trailer recently dropped on Jio Hotstar.
Set in Thiruvananthapuram, the story revolves around the sudden suspension of 12 police officers by five SHOs, raising questions about who they’re searching for and what really happened.
A striking line from the trailer, “Should we expect criminals to be good?” captures the show’s theme of the blurry line between good and evil. New characters and intense storytelling promise to keep viewers hooked.
The second season of the series is coming after a wait of more than two years. Let’s hope the wait is worth it. The series is going to stream soon on JioHotstar.
