Streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc. are facing huge backlash on the internet, with many Indians alleging these platforms of being biased towards certain languages.
Take, for instance, the case of Jurassic Park. Although the film was dubbed in many languages including Telugu, Zee5 only has Hindi and Tamil as the options for Indian languages.
These kinds of instances naturally work to anger those whose native language did not get featured on the platform despite the content being dubbed in it.
This problem becomes much more specific to India, with more than 100 languages being spoken across the nation.
Even the 22 officially recognised languages are too much for content to be dubbed in each one of them.
These platforms do not have to face such problems in countries like the US, where English is the most popular language, with Spanish following close behind.
The streaming platforms need to recognise that Indian people have deep-rooted sentiments in their native languages.
This kind of outrage will continue unless the platforms start giving deserving importance to each regional language.
