A massive data breach has reportedly exposed login credentials linked to over 149 million online accounts. Popular platforms such as Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, and Netflix are among those affected. The scale of the breach has raised serious concerns around digital safety.
The unsecured database was discovered by cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler. Reports suggest it contained 149,404,754 unique logins and passwords. The raw credential data reportedly totalled around 96 GB, indicating a large and organised collection.
The leaked data includes 48 million Gmail accounts, 17 million Facebook accounts, 6.5 million Instagram accounts, and 3.4 million Netflix accounts. It also lists 4 million Yahoo accounts and 1.5 million Outlook accounts, highlighting the widespread nature of the breach.
Experts believe the data was gathered through malware infections and phishing campaigns. Such exposed credentials can enable credential stuffing attacks, identity theft, financial fraud, and targeted phishing attempts across multiple platforms.
Users are strongly advised to change passwords immediately and enable two factor authentication. Using a reliable password manager can also help improve security. The incident serves as a reminder that weak password habits can carry serious consequences.
