Coolie OTT Backlash: Lokesh’s Endless Haunting?

Rajinikanth’s Coolie faces OTT backlash

Rajinikanth’s Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, released in theatres on August 14 and received mixed reviews. Despite strong box office earnings, the film quickly turned into a troll fest, with many calling it the weakest film of Lokesh’s career.

After its theatrical run, Coolie premiered on Prime Video on September 11. The OTT release triggered another round of trolling, as netizens highlighted logical errors in the screenplay. Viewers cited mistakes like Simon not recognising Deva until the climax despite their backstory.

Another scene pointed out involved Deva’s video call to Dhayal, where both Kalyani and Preethi were present. Later, Preethi goes with Kalyani without doubt, raising questions about consistency. These flaws have sparked fresh criticism against the filmmaker on social media.

Fans recall how Lokesh’s earlier film Leo faced similar backlash for its illogical flashback, which he later defended in interviews. However, this time he has remained silent about Coolie’s issues, leading many to believe the screenplay was not written properly.

Critics argue that Lokesh Kanagaraj wasted a golden chance to deliver a strong film with Rajinikanth, a dream collaboration for any director. With heavy trolling continuing after the OTT release, fans now await to see how Lokesh responds and redeems himself with his next project.
