Robert De Niro recently made his OTT debut with a political thriller titled Zero Day. The show is currently available for streaming on Netflix after its premiere on February 20, 2025.
However, the series has not been up to the mark and the reviews are revealing the same in front of everyone. Critics have mentioned that the show lacks thriller elements and the basic storyline is also not getting a lot of praise from anyone.
A few others have stated that Robert’s character can hardly make an emotional connection and there are a few characters that leave an impression. But on the other hand, some of them are also getting compared to real-life personalities such as Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
One particular character from the show that has received a little bit of appreciation is Bill Camp, who appears as the CIA director.
Furthermore, the handling of the main subject by the producers has been heavily criticized and a few outlets stated that despite having a talented star cast, most of them have been wasted.
Apart from all that, the show has received additional criticism for having a lot of inaccuracies when the scenes of modern politics are played on screen, and De Niro’s presence also fails to save the show from nose-diving.
It seems like Robert De Niro might have to wait for some more time to impress the OTT audiences.
The best choice for him right now is to select a better script that can show his potential alongside a good storyline. While Zero Day might bring some viewership for Netflix, it seems like the show is already a disaster.
