SonyLIV is doing wonders with its new true crime show ‘Black, White & Grey’ and there is something all other platforms should try to learn from it.
The show is made with a very small budget and there are relatively unknown faces in it. Yet it manages to create a generic hype and is getting great views even now.
SonyLIV has been a pathbreaker in small budget originals and this is what other platforms should try to learn as well. The reason behind ‘Black, White & Grey’ working out so well is its writing.
There is experimentation and also a certain amount of understanding of what audiences want. It reminds of Raj and DK stories in its execution.
What platforms like Netflix and Prime Video are doing is investing too much in a show without paying enough attention to the writing. We saw how Heeramandi failed even after being such a star studded show.
But at the same time, Black, White & Grey must not become a formula for all platforms to copy. But they should take lessons of how to make a really small story work so well with minimal promotions.
