Netflix faced a major outage early Thursday which disrupted streaming for thousands of users in the United States. The issue affected many who were waiting for new content.
Reports say the outage caused minor issues in India as well. Downdetector logged more than 15,000 reports in the US around 6 am. India had about 60 reports during the same period.
The timing of the disruption matched the highly awaited release of the final season of Stranger Things. This increased the frustration of fans who were eager to watch the new episodes.
Many viewers shared their disappointment on X. Several said they could not load Netflix just as Part 1 of the final season became available.
In India, the first set of episodes was set to stream from 6:30 am on Thursday. The remaining parts will release on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Stranger Things features Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour and Sadie Sink. The series has maintained strong global popularity for years.
This made the outage even more disruptive for fans. The incident also came soon after a large Cloudflare outage that affected platforms like ChatGPT, Spotify, Uber and Canva.
