Rajamouli’s Varanasi OTT War Begins: Netflix vs Prime

Varanasi OTT deal rumours 650 crores

Rajamouli’s Varanasi is shaping up to be one of the biggest theatrical releases in Indian Cinema history. Now, it may also become the biggest OTT release ever. Rumours suggest that the film’s digital rights could be sealed for nearly 650 crores with either Netflix or Prime Video.

The number shocked users, and debates have already begun on social media. Many are discussing whether 650 crores is a justified price for Varanasi. The film is made on a massive 1,300 crore budget, and an OTT deal of this scale would recover nearly half its cost even before release.

Some users feel the ideal price should be around 500 crores, pointing out that the biggest OTT deal so far is for Pushpa 2. That film was sold to Netflix for around 275 crores, making it the highest ever deal at the time.

Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD was sold at a collective price of 375 crores, with Netflix acquiring the Hindi version and Amazon Prime Video taking the other regional dubs. Fans are using these numbers as a benchmark for Varanasi.

A few users also suggested that the makers should pick Netflix and close the deal at 650 crores, calling it the best possible option. But with no official confirmation, the question remains open.

For now, all eyes are on which OTT platform will secure the digital rights of Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi. The final announcement is eagerly awaited.
