Netflix’s 2024 drama Amar Singh Chamkila has created history for Indian cinema with two nominations at the 53rd International Emmy Awards. The film stands in the spotlight after being shortlisted for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series and Best Actor for Diljit Dosanjh.

Directed and co-written by Imtiaz Ali, the film tells the real story of Punjabi singer-songwriter Amar Singh Chamkila, often called the “Elvis of Punjab.” His bold music in the 1980s tackled caste, sexuality, and social struggles head-on.

Viewers praised Diljit Dosanjh’s heartfelt performance, with Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot Kaur, Chamkila’s wife and singing partner. Their on-screen chemistry brought depth to the narrative and made the story emotionally powerful.

Reacting to the Emmy nod, Diljit expressed pride and gratitude. He said the honour goes beyond individual recognition and celebrates Amar Chamkila’s cultural legacy and Punjabi music on the global stage. He also thanked Imtiaz Ali for trusting him with the role.
