No marketing trick sounds as farcical as the one announced by Sarfira in an attempt to save its collection. As the rainy season hits North India we all start craving hot tea and lucious samosas, Sarfira screenings will take care of that for us with complimentary chai-samosa on every ticket, however this is a limited time offer. It has worked to some extent as many people run to grab their tickets with free snacks!
But the question arises, should a film depend on these tricks if it is a good one? Only goes to show that Akshay Kumar has been scared by his box office performance over the years. The film earned a modest 2.5 cr on day one which increased to 4.25 cr on day two and 5.1 cr on day three, which is not so great.
Sarfira is a Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru directed by Sudha Kongara and has actors like Akshay Kumar, Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal and Rahul Vohra. The film tells the story of a common man wanting to make air travel accessible to the common people like him. Mixed reviews started flooding in for it where many compared it to the original film and didn’t find it as great but others found Akshay’s performance highly commendable. We are yet to see how well the chai-samosa entice the audience to the theatres over the coming weeks.
