Fact Check: Dhruv Rathee Targeted Deepika Padukone?

Dhurv Rathee beauty standards video controversy

YouTuber Dhurv Rathee recently released a video questioning the fake beauty standards promoted by Bollywood celebrities. In the video, he explains how many celebrities in India and abroad undergo medical procedures to enhance their appearance and fit current beauty expectations.

He points out that Indian celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra, Shruti Hassan, Shilpa Shetty, Khushi Kapoor, and others have openly admitted to getting procedures done. These admissions highlight how common cosmetic enhancements have become in the industry today.

A short clip from the video later went viral on X. In that clip, Dhurv appeared to criticise Deepika Padukone and other actresses for allegedly undergoing skin-lightening treatments. The clip suggested that these actresses promote skin-whitening creams despite knowing such results come from medical procedures.

The viral video showed before-and-after images of Deepika, making it seem like she was being directly targeted. Many viewers felt the clip tried to portray her as misleading her audience for commercial gain.

Soon after, social media users flagged that the clip was edited. They pointed out that the original video did not include Deepika’s images and that someone had doctored the footage to spread misinformation.

Dhurv later clarified that Deepika’s photos were added without his consent. He said he never intended to single out or attack any specific actress in his original video.

He added to the controversy by stating that he had no idea why Deepika was targeted. He suggested it could be a dirty PR move by a competitor actress, which further intensified online debates.

The video and the edited clip sparked widespread discussion on social media. You now see users trying to figure out which celebrities genuinely promote unrealistic standards and which have been unfairly dragged into the controversy.

Several points from Dhurv’s video are now being misused to defame actresses. In reality, many Bollywood celebrities, both men and women, rely on cosmetic procedures to enhance their appearance.

Some celebrities, including Shruti Hassan and Rajkumar Rao, have openly accepted undergoing such treatments. Others continue to deny it, even as audiences grow more aware of the role modern medicine plays in shaping celebrity looks.

While stopping this trend entirely seems unlikely, many viewers believe celebrities should be honest. You deserve transparency, not false promises sold through fairness creams and unrealistic beauty claims.
