After Flops, KJo Ditches Romance for Mythology?

Karan Johar Plans Two Creature Films

Karan Johar has recently started planning another big film. Latest updates have revealed that the producer is planning two projects that are scheduled to go on the floor by the end of 2026.

An insider has revealed that the first one is going to be a big creature feature with a mythological background, followed by a creature comedy. Karan’s company, Dharma Productions, is aiming to bring the best experience for the audience in both concepts.

The source stated that one of them will be announced with a video asset in theatres, and it will be attached to the prints of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. Although the cast and other details have not been confirmed, Sandeep Modi, who directed shows like Night Manager, is going to helm one of the projects.

Netizens appreciated the choice of projects that Karan is willing to produce now. People praised the fact that Karan is slowly coming out of his comfort zone, where he used to prefer only romantic dramas and action.

On the other hand, a few even questioned if the latest two projects are somehow inspired by Munjya or the character Sarkata from Stree 2. Most of them linked the matter to Munjya, based on the reports that are going viral, saying that Karan is possibly trying to explore the same genre, which became a surprise hit at the box office.

Social media users said that while there is nothing wrong with a filmmaker entering the same genre, it is important that the script, screenplay, and presentation have to be completely new and original instead of repeating ideas that audiences have already witnessed in the past.

Others asked Karan to keep the budget as minimal as possible due to the unpredictable nature of today’s box office and considering the fact that Dharma Productions has been dealing with the reputation of delivering a lineup of flops for some time.

The concepts linked to the supernatural, horror, and mythology are now easily working at the box office, attracting the masses. Only time will tell if Karan will be able to do the same or whether audiences will reject his stories.
