The Delhi High Court has recently issued a new order related to Khushi Kapoor. As per the latest update, the court has asked social media platforms to remove any kind of obscene content related to the actress, alongside online material associated with the unauthorized sale of merchandise by using her identity in any form.
Notably, the order was in response to a suit that was filed by Khushi Kapoor, who asked for protection of her personality and publicity rights. The court even hinted that an anonymous order in her favor, linked to a plea for an interim injunction, would also be passed. This process is also known as a John Doe order.
For the unversed, a John Doe order refers to an order where protection is extended to random people or entities who might be linked to the unauthorized use or exploitation of someone’s identity. The order can allow a personality to take action against any parties involved in such activities.
The latest action of the court has raised a new debate on social media. While a few appreciated the move taken by the authorities, others asked why the necessary steps were not being taken to stop such problems.
A particular section stated that the rise in the use of AI is one of the main reasons why these issues have not stopped easily. The same people even advised the government to bring limitations or restrictions to the use of AI in some manner. However, some others disagreed, stating that there are many other tools besides AI that can help with the unauthorized use of someone’s identity.
On the other hand, a few people also questioned the actions of the court, saying that if a normal individual had approached them for the same help, it would have possibly taken some more years for the order to be passed.
