Sunny Deol’s upcoming film, Lahore 1947, is expected to release later this year after facing several delays. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, the film features many familiar faces and has already created strong curiosity among trade circles.
With Sunny Deol’s Border 2 continuing to draw audiences to theatres, trade experts feel Lahore 1947 could also receive a strong response upon release. Many believe the actor’s sustained popularity may help the film perform well despite its sensitive subject.
Film critic Taran Adarsh shared that the reunion of Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi after many years is likely to attract attention. He also recalled Rajkumar Santoshi expressing his long-standing desire to make this particular film.
Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema, reflected on the success of Damini and Sunny Deol’s impact in it. Despite limited screen time, the role helped Sunny create a powerful image and also earned him a National Award.
Atul Mohan and Raj Bansal echoed similar views, stating that Rajkumar Santoshi carefully evaluates his subjects before filmmaking. They believe Lahore 1947 may open strongly as it differs from routine action-driven commercial films.
Audience reactions online remain divided so far. While Sunny Deol’s fans are excited, some viewers are concerned about Pakistan being portrayed positively, which may not connect well given current political sentiments between India and Pakistan.
Others feel audiences may overlook such concerns, as many prefer watching Sunny Deol on screen regardless of the backdrop. Some also cited the success of Sita Ramam, suggesting that a romantic narrative with a Pakistan angle can still work.
The film’s release date continues to be discussed, especially with no promotional material released yet. Whether Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi’s collaboration meets expectations will become clear once the film finally arrives in theatres.
