Yash Raj Films has advanced the release of Mardaani 3 by two weeks. The film will now hit theatres on January 30 instead of February 13.
The move is aimed at avoiding a crowded box office window. Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo and Aanand L Rai’s production Tu Yaa Main were also eyeing the same February release date.
With all three films catering largely to urban audiences, the makers of Mardaani 3 opted for a cleaner solo run. Industry observers feel this decision could help maximise the film’s box office potential.
Sources say the release date shift had been under discussion for some time. However, the official announcement came after O’Romeo and Tu Yaa Main had already begun their promotional campaigns.
By moving ahead, Mardaani 3 avoids a three-way clash. Such clashes often divide audience attention and dilute collections for all films involved.
The film marks Rani Mukerji’s return as Senior Inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy. The character has become one of her most recognised roles over the past decade.
Mardaani 3 is directed by Abhiraj Minawala. This project marks his directorial debut after assisting on several YRF films.
The film arrives seven years after Mardaani 2, which was released in 2019. Despite a relatively short promotional window of around 15 days, the team appears confident.
The Mardaani franchise has built a loyal audience over time. Rani Mukerji’s portrayal of a strong and determined police officer has consistently received praise.
Known for its grounded storytelling and focus on crime and justice, Mardaani 3 is expected to follow the same tone. The film is now set for a January 30 theatrical release.
