Director’s Longest Film, Will Fans Survive?

Nishaanchi CBFC cuts updates

When an Anurag Kashyap film hits theatres, drama is almost guaranteed. After Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat in 2023, the director returns to the big screen after two and a half years with Nishaanchi.

The crime-comedy features newcomer Aaishvary Thackeray in a dual role. The film has already caught attention with its quirky promotional content and songs. Fans expected CBFC interference, but the extent of changes surprised many.

Nishaanchi did not receive visual cuts. However, the Examining Committee of the CBFC asked the makers to modify one foul word in six places. Cuss words in six more scenes also had to be altered.

All action, violent, and romantic sequences were cleared without change. After these modifications, the film received a U/A 16+ certificate on August 21. The censor certificate listed the length as 176.48 minutes, which equals 2 hours, 56 minutes, and 48 seconds.

On September 5, the makers revisited the CBFC to add new elements voluntarily. A 2-minute-14-second song, Saram Lagela, was included. A 58-second post-credit scene and a six-second slate with “End of Part 1” were also added.

The logos of Zee Music Company and Amazon Prime Video added 17 seconds. The opening credits were changed. The song Ee Manwaa, lasting 39 seconds, was deleted and replaced with background music. The track Sunday Ke Maar was replaced with Tohara Naam Dil Pe.

With these edits, 39 seconds were removed, while 3 minutes 35 seconds were added. The updated runtime of Nishaanchi is now 179.44 minutes, or 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 44 seconds.

This makes Nishaanchi the longest Anurag Kashyap film to date. While fans are excited about this ambitious runtime, some fear it could feel stretched and exhausting. The true verdict will be clear only after the release.
