Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan starrer Raees has been doing good in India and the filmmakers were very hopeful about its scheduled release in Pakistan. However, to the shock of the makers and the distributors, the censor board of Pakistan has declared the film unfit for public exhibition.

According to the tweets of some journalists from Pakistan, the censor board which was meeting to give a final verdict regarding the release of Raees decided against it as the establishment felt that the movie displayed Muslims in a negative light as compared to Hindus who are shown positively. Members of the board were also upset with Shah Rukh playing a Shia bootlegger and felt that it would upset the sentiments of the Sunni majority country. Thus on the grounds of showing Muslims as criminals and the film content undermining Islam as well as a specific religious sect, the release of the film has been halted.
Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil has been given a clean chit and cleared for release.
