Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has reignited excitement among fans by teasing Ra. One 2. However, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment after he revealed major hurdles delaying the sequel.
In an interview with Parbhat Khabar, Anubhav Sinha said he is genuinely interested in making a sequel to his 2011 sci-fi action film Ra. One. He added that the project would take at least two to three years to complete.
The director also pointed out scheduling challenges with Shah Rukh Khan. He noted that the actor is currently busy with back-to-back films and has a tightly packed calendar.
News of a possible sequel thrilled fans and industry insiders alike. Over the years, Ra. One has achieved cult-classic status and is now considered one of Bollywood’s most ambitious and defining experiments in the sci-fi genre.
However, social media users were quick to recall the film’s initial reception. When Ra. One released in 2011, it faced heavy trolling and criticism for failing to meet sky-high expectations.
Despite this, the film aged well with time. Its VFX, music, dialogues, and screenplay are still widely appreciated for pushing boundaries rarely explored in Bollywood at the time.
Trade analysts, however, remain cautious about Ra. One 2. They believe that with Shah Rukh Khan currently enjoying peak box office dominance, collaborating again with a director known for niche storytelling may carry financial risk.
Industry voices also argue that investing hundreds of crores in a sequel led by a niche filmmaker may not align with SRK’s current winning streak. Breaking that momentum could be commercially risky.
Fans strongly disagree with this view. They believe the nostalgia attached to Ra. One could work in the sequel’s favour. Many also feel that the lack of fresh genres in mainstream cinema gives Ra. One 2 a clear edge.
With Anubhav Sinha teasing a comeback to one of SRK’s most talked-about films, speculation is at an all-time high. The big question now is whether Shah Rukh Khan will take the risk or continue dominating with tried and tested action thrillers.
