Ramayana Release Twist: Smart Move or Huge Risk?

Ramayana release plan debate before Diwali

Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana is once again in the spotlight amid reports of a possible early release. The makers are said to be aiming for a release before Diwali, instead of the initially expected October 30 timeline.

According to insiders, the plan is to establish the film ahead of the festive period. The producer reportedly believes that positive word of mouth could drive stronger collections during the second week, especially with festival footfall supporting theatre occupancy.

However, the makers are still waiting to finalise a distribution deal. Reports suggest that pricing remains a key hurdle, and no agreement has been reached so far. Further updates are expected once negotiations progress.

Online reactions to this strategy have been mixed. Some users feel the move could benefit Love & War, which is set to release in January, by allowing it a better theatrical window and opening opportunity.

Trade experts, however, are not fully convinced by this approach. They believe the gap between releases may not be sufficient to create a strong advantage for either film in the long run.

Concerns are also being raised about the film’s high budget. Critics suggest that Ramayana would need to earn over Rs. 50 crores daily for an extended period to recover costs, which many consider unrealistic in the current market.

Others argue that release timing alone may not determine success. They believe the trailer, content quality and audience response will ultimately decide the film’s box office performance.

With several big films already scheduled for December, the competition remains intense. It remains to be seen whether advancing the release will work in favour of Ramayana or add further risk.
