Actor Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed that he will play a double role in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The film is a two part epic and remains one of the most anticipated projects in Indian cinema with a large scale production.
Apart from playing Lord Rama, Ranbir Kapoor will also portray Lord Parshurama. The character is known as the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu and appears before Rama in mythology. This dual role adds an interesting layer to the film.
Ranbir Kapoor shared this update during an interaction with Collider at the teaser launch in Los Angeles on April 3, 2026. His statement has quickly gained attention among fans and film industry followers.
The actor revealed that he prepared for both roles for more than a year. He studied their spiritual beliefs and motivations in detail. To differentiate the characters, he worked on body language and voice modulation carefully.
According to him, Lord Rama reflects calmness and righteousness, while Lord Parshurama represents intensity and aggression. This contrast is expected to play a key role in the storytelling. His approach highlights the depth of the characters.
The recently released trailer has already hinted at a dual role. Some scenes show Rama holding Parshurama’s battle axe, which sparked discussions among viewers. These visuals have increased curiosity about the film’s narrative.
Ramayana also features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The film is backed by strong VFX work through DNEG. The casting and scale have drawn mixed yet strong reactions.
The first part of Ramayana is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release, while the second part is planned for 2027. With its scale and cast, the film is expected to be one of the most talked about releases.
