The film will recreate the iconic start of India’s democratic journey by portraying the first general elections of 1951-52.

Saif Ali Khan will play the role of Sukumar Sen, India’s first Chief Election Commissioner, whose role was pivotal in overseeing the first steps of an infant country trying to walk on its own.

The film is currently in pre-production, with shooting expected to start around April-May 2025. The project will be produced by Nikkhil Advani under the banner of ‘Emmay Entertainment’.

With a massive OTT success from ‘Sacred Games’, and the upcoming project ‘Jewel Thief: The Red Sun Chapter’, this film will mark Saif Ali Khan’s third collaboration with Netflix.

The response from social media has been highly positive, with positive comments flowing about the expectations from the film.

One user wrote, “Finally, Indian history is being told with authenticity! Can’t wait to see Saif Ali Khan as Sukumar Sen.”

Another user praised Saif as he commented, “Saif is perfect for such roles—he’ll nail the depth and intensity needed for this story.”

The film will have to shoulder a big responsibility as it tries to balance between creative liberty and historical accuracy.

With the public more sensitive than ever, it would be interesting to see how the film manages to portray such a pivotal moment in Indian history without hurting some sentiments.
