Salman’s Next Move: South Director, Big Gamble?

Salman Khan's Next Move: South Director Mahesh Narayanan, Big Gamble?

According to earlier reports, Salman Khan is planning to dip his toes into various projects, including Apoorva Lakhia’s war drama and Ganga Ram with Sanjay Dutt.

Bhai has reportedly been in talks with several directors such as Kabir Khan, Ali Abbas Zafar, Anees Bazmee, and Rajkumar Periasamy for upcoming films.

Now, adding to this growing list, recent reports suggest that Salman has also approached acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan. The two reportedly held discussions in Mumbai for a large-scale action thriller.

Best known for directing critically acclaimed Malayalam films like Take Off, C U Soon, and Malik, Mahesh Narayanan is said to be venturing into more commercial territory with this potential Salman Khan project. Sources describe it as his most commercially oriented script to date.

If the project materialises, it will mark Mahesh Narayanan’s directorial debut in Hindi cinema. He has also previously worked as an editor on two Hindi films: Phir Kabhi and Traffic.

Mahesh’s style of direction is known to be distinct and content-driven, but the biggest question fans are asking is—will he be able to match the mass appeal and star power that Salman commands across the nation?

Currently, Mahesh Narayanan is busy shooting his most ambitious Malayalam film yet, MMMN, which stars Malayalam legends Mammootty and Mohanlal in their first on-screen collaboration in 16 years.

Fans are hoping that the performance and scale of MMMN might offer a glimpse of how Mahesh would handle a superstar like Salman Khan.

While Salman hasn’t given a final nod to the project yet, fans remain sceptical about how such a collaboration would turn out.

With Sikandar, Salman also collaborated with South Indian director A.R. Murugadoss, but that film failed to meet expectations.

Is it a smart move for Salman to team up with another South Indian director, especially at a time when the stakes are high and he needs a solid comeback hit?
