Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was reportedly hospitalised on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, which coincided with his 63rd birthday. He was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. The sudden development has raised concerns across the film industry.
According to a report by Variety India, the Devdas director felt uneasy and experienced chest pain. He was rushed to the emergency room on Tuesday evening. He is currently under medical observation as a precaution.
Sources revealed that cardiologist Sunil Wani attended to him after admission. Though he is said to be feeling better, he remains in the hospital for a regular procedure. The team is closely monitoring his recovery.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently directing Love & War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. The film is scheduled for release on August 14, 2026. The project is considered one of the biggest upcoming releases.
Earlier reports suggested that Ranbir Kapoor and producer Namit Malhotra had requested a shift in the release date. They reportedly preferred June 2026 to avoid a clash with Ramayana Part 1. The intention was to create space between both major films.
The idea was to ensure each project receives proper marketing and audience attention. With Bhansali’s sudden health scare, uncertainty now surrounds the timeline. It remains to be seen whether the release plan changes.
For now, the focus remains on the filmmaker’s health and recovery. Industry insiders hope he resumes work soon. Whether Love & War sticks to its Independence Day weekend release will depend on his condition.
