Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri’s real-life love story is nothing short of a Bollywood script—a young romance, disapproved by families, where the hero eventually wins everybody over and it’s happily ever after.
Shah Rukh met Gauri when she was in 9th grade and he was finishing his 12th. As their liking towards each other grew, they faced strong opposition, especially from Gauri’s brother, Vikrant Chibber, who was extremely protective and even threatened Shah Rukh for merely looking at his sister.
Recalling those early days of their love affair, Shah Rukh once shared on The Kapil Sharma Show how Vikrant would intimidate young Shah Rukh, once even threatening him with a gun.
SRK jokingly said, “Wo apne aap ko school ka bada dada samajhte the,” adding despite all of the threats he’d still approach him with respect, as he was Gauri’s brother.
Apart from all the threats, their love also faced religious barriers; they came from different faiths, and Gauri’s parents were initially against their match.
In a candid interview with designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Gauri revealed how they even changed SRK’s name to “Abhinav” during their dating phase to make him appear as a Hindu.
She went on to admit how silly and childish this cover-up was, but eventually, in true SRK fashion, he won over her family.
Despite all odds—the family’s opposition, difference of faiths, and SRK’s then-uncertain future in Bollywood—the two tied the knot in 1991.
Over the decades, the couple became one of the most iconic duos of their time, known for their inseparable bond and mutual respect.
Gauri and SRK have made multiple appearances where one cannot help but gush over their timeless tale and their emotionally charged journey from teenage sweethearts to partners for life.
