Sitaare Zameen Par box office

Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par arrived in theatres yesterday. The film opened to a decent number on Day 1, which was reported to be around Rs. 10.50 crores. However, it is still very less for a superstar like Aamir, whose Thugs of Hindostan accumulated almost Rs. 50 crores on the first day.

Notably, the evening shows of SZP witnessed a huge occupancy on Day 1. The second day has not ended yet and there is a possibility of a huge jump, considering that the overall response has been positive for the film until now.

On the other hand, there have been claims that heavy block bookings were done at PVRInox to boost the numbers for the first day.

This particular report has specifically grabbed a lot of attention since Mumbai’s popular G7 multiplex had only 15% occupancy during the evening shows and it was less during day time.

Some shows at other single screen theatres were canceled for certain reasons and Jaipur’s Raj Mandir did not even take the film for their theatre.

Notably, Aamir has used a good strategy this time by not allowing the theatres to increase the ticket rates, which is common at a time when films featuring big superstars are released.

But the biggest problem right now is that certain theatres are showing low occupancy despite that the ticket rates are below Rs. 150-200 in certain places. This has also raised a question on whether people are aware of the film’s release in theatres.

Sitaare Zameen Par is an important film for Aamir Khan as his last two films have flopped and he needs to bounce back. The early trends are showing that the second day box office numbers might touch the mark of Rs. 20 crores if there is high occupancy throughout the day.

But a decent business on the weekend is not helpful for the film. SZP has to record similar occupancy on the weekdays and this cannot be predicted as the choice of watching the film depends on the audience. In such cases, offers provided by the booking platforms also cannot attract anyone so easily.

For now, the good thing is that SZP won’t be facing any heavy competition for the upcoming few weeks. Moreover, Aamir has not locked an OTT deal, which means that the film will take longer that the expected time to arrive on a particular streaming platform.

But it remains to be seen if the above-mentioned factors will help the film in any manner for the entire week until June 27. However, an increase in the box office numbers for the second and third day might provide some relief. Let’s wait for more updates on the same.
