The much anticipated seventh instalment of the Scream franchise has finally released in theatres. While expectations were high, the film has received mixed reactions from critics. However, some reports suggest there may be more behind the low ratings.
According to recent updates, a section of Palestine supporters is allegedly review bombing the film across multiple platforms. This has reportedly affected its overall critic scores. The controversy has added another layer to the film’s reception.
The backlash began after Melissa Barrera was removed from the project over her political statements. Since then, the makers have faced criticism from certain groups online. Social media campaigns and protests have continued around the release.
At present, the film holds a 43 percent critic score. Interestingly, the audience score is much stronger at around 78 percent. This gap has sparked debate about the real impact of review bombing.
Made on a budget of 45 million dollars, the film needs about 112.5 million dollars worldwide to break even. Early projections indicate a strong start. Reports suggest it may collect nearly 60 million dollars in its opening weekend.
