2025 Bollywood box office performance

With the official wrap up of the 2025 box office term, final numbers are now available. All releases have been measured against performance benchmarks. The year delivered a mix of massive successes, moderate performers, and several disappointing outcomes.

Ending the year on a strong note, Dhurandhar emerged as the biggest blockbuster of 2025. Released in December, the film crossed Rs. 1100 crore worldwide and continues to add to its total collections.

The film’s OTT release and global distribution are expected to expand its reach further. Another major addition to the blockbuster list was Chhaava, a patriotic and alpha male driven film that resonated strongly with audiences.

Chhaava turned out to be Vicky Kaushal’s biggest hit so far. The film recorded an impressive Rs. 800 crore worldwide run. In contrast, Saiyaara introduced a musical romance genre that found wide appeal.

Saiyaara launched new faces Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The film surprised trade analysts with a Rs. 570 crore worldwide collection, proving that fresh talent can also deliver big numbers when content connects.

Mahavatar Narsimha dominated the animated genre and secured blockbuster status. Other films that performed well and delivered decent hit verdicts included Raid 2, Tere Ishk Mein, and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.

Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par was promoted as a superhit but settled for a semi hit verdict. Collections did not fully match expectations despite strong pre release buzz.

Several films ended up as average hits during the year. These included Jaat, Kesari Chapter 2, Jolly LLB 3, and Thamma, all of which managed steady but unspectacular box office runs.

On the downside, 2025 also saw its share of forgettable outings. Major releases like War 2, Sikandar, Son of Sardaar 2, Housefull 5, Deva, and 120 Bahadur failed to impress at the box office.
