Akhil Akkineni

Some movies flop so spectacularly at the box office that only a few people witness their downfall in theaters. Many are then keen to see these disasters when they hit OTT platforms to understand what went so wrong.

One such disaster is Akhil Akkineni’s Agent, a film that was once one of Tollywood’s most ambitious projects. Directed by Surender Reddy and produced by Anil Sunkara, Agent was marketed as a high-octane spy thriller aiming to rival James Bond films.

Unfortunately, Agent turned out to be one of the worst films in recent times. Despite a hefty budget of ₹90-100 crores, it barely managed to make ₹10 crores at the box office.

The film’s failure was so significant that Surender Reddy disappeared from the limelight, and his subsequent project with Pawan Kalyan was shelved.

Adding to the film’s woes, it still hasn’t been officially released on any OTT platform due to a legal dispute between the distributor and producer. There were reports that the Hindi version might be aired first on Goldmines TV on July 28.

Interestingly, an unofficial version of the film has appeared on YouTube in the past 24 hours. It’s unclear if this is a pirated copy of the TV broadcast or something else.
