Prashanth Neel is next only to Rajamouli in terms of the scale of filmmaking and commercial acceptance. So this naturally makes him one of the most sought-after filmmakers in Indian cinema.
Cut to now, Tamil media is abuzz that Neel has pitched a script to Tamil star Ajith Kumar and this might actually materialize in the near future.
But by the looks of it, this project looks good only on paper and it might actually only be a distant dream.
For starters, Neel is a big league director now. He needs heroes who can pull big numbers in all major markets.
Like for instance, a Prabhas or an NTR can pull numbers in the Telugu belt, overseas, and noteworthy numbers from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. In the case of Prabhas, he can bring solid numbers in Hindi as well.
This enables Neel to envision big films without budget constraints which in turn helps in making winning products. This is the reason why he chose NTR and Prabhas for his films.
Though there is nothing against Ajith, his market outside Tamil Nadu and Tamil pockets of overseas is negligible. Telugu and Hindi contributions are volatile. Neel will have to largely downsize his production if he wants to make a film in Tamil.
At this point in time where Neel has Prabhas and NTR in the pipeline, a film with Ajith looks only like a distant dream.
